Work in Progress

First thoughts and notes on my new project:

Karl was my grandfather. He died thirty years ago -  what he has left for me can be classified into two different categories: memories and a hand full of objects and photographs  - some of those I took myself. These objects in contrast to the memories still deliver tactile surfaces and edges, they still give forth traces of a specific scent.

With my stills I’m trying to continue this material alphabet with my own additions which are woven of heritage objects and manifestations of my memory.

At the same time this is dealing with one of photography’s oldest features: creating memory - and it is questioning the objectivity of this feature.

One topic I’m digging deeper into is the ritual object of a death mask. With old photographs I took when my grandfather died I try to construct death masks for him which bring back the moment on the edge between life and death.
